Mokume-gane is a Japanese word that means "woodgrain metal". It is a metalworking technique where sheets of different colored metals are fused together, then the block is manipulated and sliced to reveal intricate patterns. Originally the fused block would have been manipulated in such a way to produce a woodgrain pattern.
